Description

The original inhabited nucleus was called "Lookout" for its beautiful geographic position near the Etna. It puts into effect the name that was given to the city in the 1687 from its founder Ferdinand Gravina since rose to the stratums of  the volcano. The country remained under the dominion of this noble family until to the abolition of the feudalism rights.

Attractions:

Consecrated  to the Madonna of the Rosary, the Church was constructed in the first years of the eighteenth century and across the time it has been restored many times. It has a supported basilican structure to three navates from imposing arched.

The greater part of the furnishings is originates as a brace of altars in marble in direction of the lateral navate that adorns from valuable burlaps. These last ones represent all of the scenes of the life of saints, between these the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastiano, the Shovel of Saint Lucia attributable to Francisco Mancini and two paintings of Saint Francisco and Sant'Antonio, work of Alexander Abbot.

It was built up in 1712 and it was called therefore because it was found in correspondence of the feudalism properties of the wife of the prince, Anna Maria Lucchese, baroness of Saint Fratello. It accommodated the standards of the Gravina and the borbonic monarchy, destroyed during the revolution of 1948.

Typical Products

To Piedimonte the cultivation of the Wineyards has been developed, from which an optimal wine is produced that is the DOC “Red Etna”.
