Here is a list of the best Sicily sights for tourists places should not be missed during your days sightseeing in Sicily.

Isola Bella
  • 1. Taormina : It is the jewel of Sicily and 1 of the most famous tourist sights in Sicily. The town is rather isolated in the east so it is not the best base for seeing the island's other highlights. Placed high on Monte Tauro it enjoys spectacular landscapes across the sea with Mount Etna as its backdrop. If you tour the Sicily by train you will arrive at Taormina-Giardini station (From Messina or Catania rail station) and you will need to take the  bus to the top. Teatro Greco is one of the highlights of this little town and you can also visit the 12th century Torre Dell’Orologio  , Roman Odeon and the Castello.
Selinunte
  • 2. Selinunte: With an archaeological park the largest in the Mediterranean is known for the Salt Way Road and the Sicilian Windmills. In the fascinating Erice, a small medieval village of Greek origin, situated on a little hill, it is possible to enjoy a fantastic view on the Egadi Islands and have a taste of its typical almonds biscuits. It's the starting point of the sightseeing tours of the west coast of Sicily.

  • 3. The city of Segesta: Founded by the Greeks, is interesting to view the famous Doric Temple, built on a hilltop in the 5th century B.C. Continue along "Via del Sale" - The Salt Road – you can see still active salt mills.

  • 5. Palermo:Is a mixture of art, architecture, culture and lifestyle. Here you will see high fashion shops, Arabic cupolas and Byzantine street markets. In the centre of the old city centre is Quattro Canti, a splendid square ringed by four baroque buildings. Take the opportunity to visit the city’s baroque churches, spectacular mosaics and royal palaces. Have  a look also to the Palace of the Normans and its superb Palatine Chapel and  the Cathedral of Palermo .

  • 6. Visit the famous Benedictine Abbey of Monreale: Here, admire the 12th century cathedral with its mosaics depicting events of the Old and New Testaments, and the Cloisters. On to Monte Pellegrino, a promontory that overlooks Palermo’s bay,  you may wish to visit Santa Rosalia’s sanctuary, the city’s patron saint.

  • 7. Cefalú: Is one of the richest town in Sicily for history and art. Visit  the Capo Market, the Massimo Theatre , the Norman Palace with the palatine chapel and Hall of the King Roger II,  the Opera House, the Pretoria Square and so on.

  • 8. Catania : The town well known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava stone from Mt.Etna,  is the 2nd largest city of Sicily. Giovanni Vaccarini, the 18th century architect, gave a noble aspect to the city with very fine examples of Baroque art. Some of the city highlights include the Piazza del Duomo, the Municipio, Piazza Mazzini, Museo Civico, Museo Belliniano and Teatro Romano.

  • 9. Siracusa: Highlights are the Neapolis Archaeological Park, the Greek Theatre, the Latomie and the Ear of Dionysius. There is also a sense of romance when visit the small baroque island of Ortigia,   Ortigia is the old part of the city and features an ancient port, a great cathedral, an old castle, temples and museums.
Agrigento temple
  • 10. The small town of Agrigento: It enjoys expansive views across to the sea and looks over the wonderful Valley of Temples  with the Concordia Temple, Hercules Temple, Giunone Temple and Castore and Polluce Temples representing the most beautiful example of the Greek Civilization in Sicily. You can also visit the excellent Museo Nazionale Archeologico. Continue your journey across the island and stop in Piazza Armerina to view the extraordinary mosaics of the Roman Villa del Casale.
