An hiking itinerary in the highest volcano of Europe One of the most beautiful experiences for trekking lovers is a excursion to the Summit Craters of the Etna. The structure is formed by four eruptive mouths: the Center Crater, always active with the emission of "lava", ashes and gas; the New Mouth; the northeast and the south-east Craters. The Etna excursion starts from the "Rifugio Sapienza" Nicolosi (1900 meters). Once reached the "Torre del Filosofo" (Philosopher Tower) (2900 meters), with cable car and the 4wd vehicle, after an hour of walking you will arrive to the Summit Craters. Coming down you will pass through the "Valle del Bove" (Bove valley) in order then to return to the "Rifugio Sapienza". TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Duration: 5h (approximately)
- Difficulty: medium
- Land: lava sand
- Equipment: trekking boots, long pants, jacket, hat, gloves (with the wind from north on the Etna, the temperatures can be several degrees more lower than Catania, also on summer).
- Unevenness: 500m (up), 1400m (down).
- Period: from April to November.
- PRICE GUIDES: 200 euro (to divide) for groups from 1 to 4 persons, 40 euro for groups from 5 to 8 persons, 35 euro for groups from 8 to 12 persons.
- PRICE CABLE CAR PLUS JEEP ONLY GONE UP: 24 euro to person.
