From the 5 to the 11 June, Catania accommodate the manifestation "Cultania". It faces topics about the history of Catania and Sicily, passing through the periods of the Greek, Norman - Sveva and Arab domination. There will be multiethnic concerts, conferences on the Arabic music, shows, entertainment and reflection moments. All this will be realized in the ancient scene of the "Castello Ursino" (Ursino castle), in Catania. The castle was constructed for Federico II of Svevia between 1230 and 1250. The origin of the name “Ursino” is attributed to the Orsini family, which have been received in the castle when they came expelled from Rome for their Ghibelline ideas. The eruption of the Etna on 1669 changed the original topography of the castle. In fact, the castle was located on a rock that dominated the beach. After the eruption, it was completely covered by the "lava" that removed the castle from the sea. Today, the castle accommodates the Civic Museum.
