The Salinelle of Paternò were found between the 202 and 216 meters s.l.m., and extend for approximately 30.000 mq. These little volcanoes of mud, naturally legacies to the sismic activity of the Etna, are characterized by rich idro-muddy emissions of mineral, chemical hydrocarbons and other elements. Normally, the temperature of emitted muddy waters varies between 16 and 18 °C, but in some of the parossistic of 1866, 1879 and 1954 they have been recorded temperatures comprised between 46 and 49 °C. From some studies, carries out concerning just the elevation of the temperature of the Salinelle, is emerged that this coincides with some sismic events of the Sicily orients. Beginning from 1999 have been observed an intense eruptive activity that has nearly always preceded the volcanic eruptions of the Etna of 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006. In these occasions are been erupted remarkable warm mud amounts that have caught up a temperature comprised between the 30 - 40 °C.
