The reservoir takes the name from the name of the river that crosses it and that is born from the stratums north-orientals of the Etna. This slides in the most fertile land, originated from alluviums deriving from the erosion of volcanic zones. In the land various sorgive emerge, between which, the Quadare sources characterized from the boiling of their waters, and the source water Head. 
 
The fluvial vegetation is characterized from interesting aquatic species stalks and floating leaves. Thanks to the particular ecological conditions, in rare the various Fiumefreddo lives igrofile species or absent in the rest of the Island like the Ranunculus penicillatus, the Cyperus papyrus papyrus ssp. Siculus and the Polygonum salicifolium. The fauna for 65% is composed from nest and migratory birds. In particular we find the airone cenerino, the airone red, the fringuello, the real germano, tortora and the other species.
