30-March-2007: In the night has been recorded on the magma cambers an increase of the tremors. The data confirm that the eruptive activity is still in course even if with smaller energy. Today the top of the Etna was covered from clouds and it has not been possible to make a direct control to observe  the phenomenon. It has been observed the more advanced arm of the tap that goes to the bove valley, sign that the feeding has been get exaustedded or is in fort decrease. Absent the lava ash emission.

 

 

 

2-Apr-2007: After the show given in the last days by Mount Etna, the effusive activity on the Volcano is concluded. However the volcano remains under observation because, as resulted by the controls of the INGV volcanologists, have been recorded elevate values of internal energy. According to the studious, today has been recorded an increasing of the volcanic tremors inside the magma chamber. It means that the eruptive phase is not completely concluded and there are lava materials in motion.It's for this, second the experts of the Catania Ingv, that the phase of alert is not completely concluded.

 

 

11-Apr-2007: Today in the morning, the show offered by the Etna!! A great lava tap going down to the Bove Valley and a big cinder explosion. Last evening and night the situation was quite, but in the morning the volcano showed us all its power.

The Etna eruption phenomenon is begun in 2,30 AM and it's finished after five hours. On the place is in course a inspection by the experts of the national Institute of geophysicist and volcanology of Catania. The scene of the new eruption is in the summit part of the craters. There are two lava taps that emerge from the base of the crater of South-East and that head towards the desert  of the Bove Valley.

In the beginning of the eruption were recorded strong roars from the crater of South-East that have been perceived also from the near etnean countries. The phenomenon has been accompanied by a spectacular “Lava fountain”, with volcanic bombs launched until 200 meters of height. A lava ash emission has been recorded too. To the state, the eruption does not constitute a danger.

At 16:00 of the 29 April 2007, after approximately an month of inactivity, the Etna is waking up. The eruptive activity is returned in the south-east crater, from which comes outside a lava flow that flows in the volcanic desert of the Bove Valley. The seismic of the Ingv (national Institute of geophysicist and volcanology) have found towards 12:00 an increment of the seismic activity on the volcano.

Around the 16:00 it's begun the eruptive activity  with emission of lava and volcanic bombs, with emissions of ash. Has not been possible an overflight in helicopter because of the cloud sky, but there has been an inspection on foot by the experts. At the hours 23:00, the sky is without clouds and the explosive activity is visible from all the east Sicily.

For the hikers interested in Etna excursions to visit the eruptive scenes, for security reasons, it is not possible to see directly the lava flows, is not possible to go up beyond 2,900 meters. For a visit is advised the use of trekking boots because of the snow presence in the paths.

 

7 May 2007: The crater of SUD-EST in the night of Sunday has started its activity. The lava flow goes in the desert of the Bove Valley. There are not risks for the population.  Starting from 22:00, yesterday the monitoring net of the institute of Geophysicist and volcanology of the INGV has recorded a graduate increase of the amplitude of the volcanic tremors, above all on the summit area. At the 1:00 of night has been marked by the television cameras an explosive activity near summit craters.

 

The investigators of the national institute of Geophysicist and volcanology (http://www.ct.ingv.it) have directly observed the collapse that in its inside shows a slag cone. The explosive activity is accompanied by ash emission.

 

Updates 4-5 September: For all the night, in the depression on the east flank of the crater of S-E, is in course an intense and spectacular strombolian activity with lava fountains that catch up a height of several hundreds of meters. A small tap of lava heads towards the Bove Valley. Moreover present is an ash column of approximately two kilometers that go towards east on Fornazzo and Milo.

It's for the ash that it has been decided, beginning from 1:00 Am of this night, the closing of the airport of Catania.
