The festivity of Sant'Agata in Catania E-mail
The celebrations for the Saint of Catania, are long and felt a lot by the citizens, that see in this Christian martyr also the saviour of the city in various occasions. In one of these she caused the stop of the flow of lava that  was  threatening  the city before her veil. The festivity begins on February the third between religious and pagan rituals. A big procession , composed by the most important religious and institutional authorities of the city, is followed by the “candelore”, brought by some devout people. On  February the 4th begins the procession of the relics of the Saint, followed by a river of devout people white dressed , the so-called “sacco”, that carry large votive waxes: larger  is the wax, larger is the grace asked the saint. On February the 5th the procession  of the relics keeps on but with another route that will end in  the dawn. The fireworks greet the Saint all the three days  dedicated  to the celebrations.
