The ancient craft of "Ciaramellaio" E-mail

Since the first century, the etnee countries have been the depositaries of ancient customs and traditions, than fortunately resist still to the time. It is the case of the ciaramellaro.

Maletto that still today, approximating of the christmas period, cheers us with the sweet melodies produced by its musical instrument, the ciaramella exactly, formed from a wineskin of skin in sheep, and from five canes of wood, which four long and one short. It remains a fascinating figure for our grandfathers therefore like for the young people, than today are attracted from this ancient art manifesting the desire and the will to learn to play this instrument for being able to continue to preservare this ancient custom.

Many of the older "ciaramellari" play for the ancient roads of the etnee countries and for the ways of Catania, dressed of their traditional dress composed from the cappuccia, along wool cape of sheep, and shoes of leather of cow, characterized from long stringhe that they go tied around the calves.

Is not sure the period in which the figure of the ciaramellaro was born, but knows that peasant has developed itself inside of the society and the shepherds, and that has been handed on from father in son. Many of they learned since child to play this ear instrument, executing a repertory of approximately six nenie that also today come embellished from their fantasy improvisations.
