We have news of the famous, traditional and multicoloured Sicilian cart,  only at the beginning of the nineteen century, before this period, few were the roads practicable for these means, that in reality  were more adapted to mules and horses, also for the transport of goods. It was during the borbonic period that were constructed wider roads, the “directions to trazzere”, not in order not to favour the commerce, but rather for military reasons.
 
And with  the widening of the roads, little by little the Sicilian carts begin to spread themselves, not as a simple mean of transport, but a “work of art”, as  defined it the French geographer Eliseo Reclus come in Sicily in order to observe the eruptions of the Etna . Yellow and  red are the colours that dominate the scenes represented in the cart, that  represent the colours of the sicilian folklore. Various figures are  represented : from the Virgin to It Saints, from the battles of Crosses to those of Napoleone Bonaparte. To draw the cart, a horse with plumes full of colours.
