This is a city of Greek origin in the province of Messina. It’s placed over a mount called “Monte Tauro” from which derive it’s name. In the city are organized a lot of manifestations all the year. The most known are the Taormina film festival and the Taormina Art.

  1. By Train you can arrive here from Syracuse, Catania or Messina and stop in the Taormina or Giardini Naxos station.
  2. By Bus you can arrive by the services provided in the Catania airport.
  3. By Car take the highway A18 Catania-Messina and take the exit “Taormina”

General tips and things to avoid

  1. The restaurants of Corso Umberto are always crowded, so it’s better to go further down towards the bus station or elsewhere outside the center.
  2. Visit the town in the morning or before the 19:00 to avoid people pollution.
  3. If you think to use the cable car, avoid to take it after 18:30h.
  4. If you go in Taormina with your own vehicle you will have big problems finding somewhere to park it. There is a big parking (called “Parcheggio Lumbi”), near the highway exit, with a shuttle bus service.

Guide to Shopping and restaurants.

In Corso Umberto there is a store every 3 meters where are available all kind of products. You can purchase almond wine, antiques and pottery.

Here is full of good restaurants where eat typical foods and wines (Pasta, pizza, spaghetti, sweets, home wines, etc…). Another great thing is the Ice Cream and Granita. There are several places in Taormina where find these products…they are called “Gelateria”. Favours are different, you can try Pistachio, Almonds, lemon, oranges and much.

The menu cards are available in English. On the menu card you will always find a price called “coperto”, used to pay for the cover and the bread you get on the table.
