Here a list of all possible info you need to travel in Sicily. It’s a summary of all travel guide i’ve found on the web.
The Sicily is placed in the center of the Mediterranean sea, at the south of Italy. There are various ways to reach the island. The best one is by airplane. There are 2 main airports: Catania (Vincenzo Bellini - Fontanarossa) and Palermo (Borsellino Falcone). In Trapani there is other airport (Vincenzo Florio) on which flight charters.

Another way to arrive in Sicily is through the strait of Messina:
- By Train (Eurostar coming from from Milan, Rome or Naples)
- By Ferries (Connections with Civitavecchia, Villa San Giovanni, Reggio Calabria, Salerno and Naples)
- By Bus (Weekly connections with Rome and Milan)
- By Car (Freeway Salerno-Reggio Calabria and then the strait).
To move around the island the better means are Bus and car. The main Sicialian cities are connected by the freeway (A18 ME-CT - A19 PA-CT - A20 ME-PA - A29 PA-TP). There are numerous connections via bus between the airports and the main tourist localities.
The smaller islands (Aeolian, Egadi, Lampedusa and Pantelleria) can easy be reached by the hydrofoils.
There is not an ideal period to visit the island, you can visit it during all the year. You can practice different activities in base of the season (Sea, cultural tours, winter sports, trekking, etc…). The best period goes from March to October.
The main attractions to visit are:
- Agrigento, in the south coast , and the Valley of the temples
- Cefalù, a beach village near the capital of Sicily Palermo
- Enna, the highest common of Europe
- Erice, a small medieval village on a mountain close to Trapani

I will be in Sicily (staying in Taormina) for two weeks in August. We are traveling with children - two teenagers and an 8-year old - any suggestions for sights and activities they may enjoy?
